Zoo Exhibit Project
Date
2022
One of the first projects that I worked on while studying at Pittsburgh Technical College was the Zoo exhibit project, for which we were asked to make a poster and secondary piece for a zoo exhibit.
We started off by picking a zoo and making sketches for different animals and exhibits. After coming up with 6 different ideas, I locked in on the idea for the angelfish exhibit.
We were asked to design the project in stages. We first started by only drawing shapes. We then moved to value, filling everything in with grayscale. After that we were asked to use different color schemes for the design, such as complementary and analogous. I chose to use the analogous colors for the fish itself, while making the shapes in the background green, as they were inspired by seaweed. When thinking about my typography, I chose Katari, as it reminded me of the zoo and matched the overall aesthetic of the piece.
For my secondary piece, I decided to design a billboard. I thought that my design worked well for a billboard, as it was all vector art, making it work for any size. I repurposed the elements from my poster on the billboard to keep everything cohesive.
